Dysport - Botulinum Toxin® Type A
Botulinum Toxin® Type A works by inhibiting the nerve activity in a particular muscle. This in turn temporarily paralyses that muscle.
Whenever you laugh, frown or squint into the sun, your facial muscles contract and your skin creases. As you get older your skin loses its elasticity and those creases deepen into lines that become permanently etched on your face. Frown lines between your eyes can become particularly noticeable at a relatively young age, making you look angry or worried even when you're not. If the muscles you use to make a frown are temporarily immobilised, other nearby muscles will pull out those lines, smoothing the skin and restoring a more youthful, less stressed expression to your face.
Dysport is commonly used to diminish frown lines (between your brows) and crows feet (lines on the side of your eyes).
The length of effectiveness of treatment can differ between individuals, but is usually between 3-5months.
Restylane - 'Dermal Filler'
The Restylane and Emervel family of products consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body. Once in the skin, the filler works by adding volume and fullness to the skin to smooth facial wrinkles and folds.
Restylane and Emervel filler used at Vein and Laser will slowly be absorbed by the body reducing the effect. Fillers are used to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds), lines from the corner of the mouth to the jawline (marionette lines) and lines around the lip.
How long does the effect last?
The length of time the effect of a Restylane treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the structure of your skin, the area being treated, lifestyle and age.
Touch-up and follow-up treatments will add to that length of time the filler lasts. Most people choose to have further treatment within a year.
When it comes to varicose veins and spider veins, the face and legs get most of the attention. One area that does not get as much attention is our hands. Although prominent hand veins are normal veins, some may become bulgy and protrude at the back of the hand with age.
The three main factors that make hands look “old” include:
1) Thick bulging veins that protrude from the back of the hand. This occurs because of loss of skin and vein wall elasticity as we age.
2) Age spots, mostly due to sun damage.
3) Loss of tissue. As the hand becomes older, it has less subcutaneous fatty tissue.
Sclerotherapy is not a new science, but has evolved into a more exact and effective way to shrink aesthetically undesirable veins. The technique for treating hand veins by sclerotherapy is similar to the technique for treating leg veins. This procedure involves injecting a chemical solution called ‘sclerosant’ into the hand vein. The vein then hardens and disappears.
As there are many veins in the hand, there will still be normal blood flow through the untreated veins.
Optimum hand rejuvenation requires treating all aspects of hand ageing
Age Spots are the small, brownish dots that appear on the back of the hands after years of sun damage. These spots can be eliminated with laser treatment.
Loss of Tissue. To solve this issue, fillers (the same as fillers used for facial rejuvenation), may be used to plump and fill in the tissue that has been lost.
Excessive sweat, especially underarm sweat, is not only embarrassing - it can stain and ruin your clothes. Even with the best of deodorants, excess sweating can still be a problem for women as well as men.
Botulinum toxin (Dysport) reduces sweating by temporarily stopping the nerve signals between the nerves and sweat glands in the area that has been treated. Dysport is administered by multiple tiny injections into the area where the sweat glands lie.
Treating the armpits, hands or feet with Dysport reduces sweating for 9-12months.
Skin tags are small brown or flesh-coloured growths that protrude from the surface of the skin. Skin tags are common they are completely harmless. Skin tags can affect anyone and most commonly occur where the skin folds or creases.
They do not usually cause any pain however they can snag on clothing or jewellery and bleed as a result.
Most doctors recommend removal of skin tags only when they are irritated or a source of discomfort, or if they constitute a cosmetic problem. Skin tags can be easily removed by using a small electrode (cautery) that shaves the tag off at the same time sealing the skin. Sometimes a local anesthetic is needed for the skin tag removal.
